The deadline for submission of candidatures for the III Edition of the Spanish Orders History Award concludes next day 28 and the name of the winner will be known in April.

It is an international award created in 2017 by the Spanish Orders of Santiago, Calatrava, Alcántara and Montesa, which was born with the vocation of becoming a benchmark in the science of history.

The Spanish Orders History Prize brings together several attributes that give it a unique character: distinguishing an entire research career (not just one work); his financial endowment of 60,000 euros, and the relevance of the Jury (Carmen Iglesias, director of the Royal Academy of History, Alfredo Pérez de Armiñán, president of the National Heritage, or the jurist and politician Marcelino Oreja, among other prominent personalities from the cultural, academic and business world).

Last May King Juan Carlos presented the award of the last edition to the medievalist from Valladolid Miguel Ángel Ladero, proposed by the University of Cádiz.

In its first edition, Felipe VI presided over the award ceremony, awarded to the British historian John H. Elliott, whose candidacy was presented by the University of Oxford.

Candidates can be proposed by Universities with a History department and institutions that, with different names, fulfill the same task, representatives of the collaborating institutions, and by the historian awarded in the last edition.

The award has the collaboration of the Areces Foundation, Talgo Foundation, Siro Group, Valmenta and Ibervalles.

The deadline for submitting the candidatures documentation began on October 8, 2019.

The jury's decision will be known in April and the award ceremony will take place in May 2020.
