The vice president of the Government of Castilla-La Mancha, José Luis Martínez Guijarro, highlighted today that the Roman site of Noheda, located in the Cuenca town of Villar de Domingo García, is called to be “the flagship of the tourist offer from the heritage point of view in the province of Cuenca”.
Martínez Guijarro, who visited this site today on the occasion of its opening to the public ‘for works’ starting this weekend, coinciding with the start of the excavation campaign and the upcoming mosaic restoration, has underlined that this monumental town, internationally known for housing the most spectacular figurative mosaic in the entire Empire, has aroused "enormous interest" after the national and international media coverage it has had in recent days.
In fact, they are already 2,000 people who have signed up for the guided tours promoted by the Government of Castilla-La Mancha in the coming months and whose tickets can be obtained through the mail [email protected] that appears in the portal of Culture of Castilla-La Mancha with all the information in this regard.
The regional Executive trusts that the definitive and permanent start-up of this site is near, for which Martínez Guijarro has advocated working together with the Cuenca Provincial Council and the Villar de Domingo García City Council. A collaboration that he wants to extend to the whole of the province to "get the highest profitability from the tourist point of view to the cultural and natural heritage offer".
For her part, the Minister of Education, Culture and Sports, Rosa Ana Rodriguez, has pointed out that "the work of recognition of archaeological works can be combined with the exhibition visit", since with this "we are giving the site of Noheda a social sense, which is what we want to do with the culture of the region ”.
In this sense, the head of Culture of the regional government has stressed that "we understand the region from the field of participation", and for this there must be knowledge of what "are each of the issues related to Culture, so that there will be a meal later and we are all jointly responsible for the conservation and preservation of these wonders that time leaves us ”.
In the same vein as the vice president of the regional government, the president of the Cuenca Provincial Council has spoken. Álvaro Martínez Chana, who has reiterated the commitment of the Provincial Institution to this site, has opted to "join forces for an integral management of the cultural and natural heritage".
