Biography of Eduard Punset
Punset was also born in Barcelona In the midst of the Civil War, on November 9, 1936. He completed his high school diploma at an institute in Los Angeles (USA) and received a law degree from the Complutense University of Madrid, where he became a member of the Communist Party. He then obtained a postgraduate degree in Economics from the University of London.
After working as an economic journalist and economist in various international institutions, he returned to Spain and entered politics during the Transition from the hand of Centristes de Catalunya-UCD. In 1978 he was appointed Minister of Economy and Finance of Catalonia by this party.
He was elected deputy in the first elections to the Parliament of Catalonia (1980) and became Minister of Relations for the European Communities (1980-1981). Later he joined the CDS and served as an MEP until 1994, the year in which he left politics after failing to achieve the expected results with Foro, the political party he had just created.
Although he was an advisor and professor at various institutions, the figure of Punset became popular for being the presenter and director of the scientific dissemination program Redes, which began its broadcast on March 23, 1996 on La 2 de Televisión Española and said goodbye to the audience eighteen years later, in January 2014.
With a very personal style and speaking with the greatest experts in each subject, the popularizer brought to the general public topics related to sociology, medicine, psychology, biology and astronomy, among others. Much of his experience and knowledge have been reflected in the multitude of books that he published as a writer.
